Baby Café drop-in centres are for pregnant and breastfeeding mums and their supporters, as well as those interested in finding out about breastfeeding or helping a breastfeeding mum.

 

WHEN VISITING A REGISTERED BABY CAFÉ YOU CAN EXPECT…

 

  1. It to be a part of the national initiative and to implement the Baby Café standards of care.

     

  2. To see a licence certificate displayed illustrating that the Baby Café is registered within The Baby Café network.

     

  3. A relaxed, informal, safe, child-friendly, non-medical environment.

     

  4. It to be a place where breastfeeding is considered the normal way to feed and care for your baby.

     

  5. To meet other breastfeeding mums from all walks of life.

     

  6. To receive up-to-date information about breastfeeding, including professional help from staff knowledgeable and skilled in helping women breastfeed.

     

  7. To be helped in a way that equips you to continue breastfeeding when you leave the Baby Café. This usually means staff will work with a ‘hands off’ approach, or work over your hands if necessary.

     

  8. That all information, suggestions, books, leaflets, videos, demonstration aids, posters available will:

       

    • Be balanced and informative.
    • Help you in making informed decisions.
    • Support and protect breastfeeding and the breastfeeding relationship.

       

  9. To be supported in the choices you make and as you carry them out.

     

  10. That staff will maintain records and liaise in a confidential manner with other local health professionals and the Baby Café head office as appropriate.

     

  11. To be responsible for your children at all times.
