During National Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2008, 11th - 17th May, the theme for this year was 'Breastfeeding : 'every day makes a difference to your baby.
During National Breastfeeding Awareness Week the Earlswood and Horley Baby Cafés welcomed many breastfeeding mothers and their supporters to join in the celebrations at the cafés.
At the Horley Baby Café several of the Mum2Mum Breastfeeding supporters were presented with The Surrey County Council Awards for volunteering by Sue Jones Head teacher at Meath Green Infant School.
This year's Breastfeeding campaign focuses on encouraging women to access the support that will help them to breastfeed for longer. At the Earlswood and Horley Baby Cafés we are promoting our Mum2Mum Breastfeeding Supporters training course, which will start in June at the YMCA facilitated by Anne Humphreys, NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor and funded by the Earlswood and Horley Children's Centres.
One new mum, Katherine, said "I love coming to the Baby Café as it's a great place to have a coffee and chat with the other mums, while knowing that I can get support with breastfeeding if I need it."
Research has shown that women who have support from other mothers while breastfeeding are more likely to continue to breastfeed for longer. This course is aimed at mums who have had experience of breastfeeding and who feel they would like to support other mums to continue to breastfeed their babies. If you are a mum who would be interested in training as a breastfeeding supporter, please phone Anne Humphreys or come along to the Horley or Earlswood Baby Cafés and meet some of the Mum2Mum peer breastfeeding supporters and find out more!
