Over 40 mothers and their babies attended the first birthday celebrations of Singapore's Baby Café on Monday 21st May, some of the babies even celebrating their own first birthday!!
The room buzzed with conversation with babies of all ages attending (12 day old Max being the youngest) Our photographer Phil Date had a field day camera-clicking from all angles - the babies graciously obliged. Our Volunteer Viv was kept very busy making tea and coffee and serving home made cakes provided by Hermei our weekly chef!!
In the past year over 700 mothers have passed through the Baby Café, a fantastic response to this new initiative in Singapore. Mothers have been able to gain expert advice as well as making new friends. For some mothers it has been the difference between continuing to breast feed and giving up. Breast feeding , considered the most natural way to feed your baby, may present with issues and complications for some mothers and with no community service here on the island the café can provide the support needed. This is what the baby cafe aims provide with lactation consultants giving practical advice and mothers getting peer support from new friends.
With numbers in the 20s the weekly meeting gives mothers the opportunity to sit back and discuss various issues.
Why not pop along and join us
each Monday between 2 -4pm.
