Baby Café is a network of breastfeeding drop-ins. They aim to offer help and support to breastfeeding mothers at any stage in their breastfeeding journey, regardless of the age of the baby or child and no matter how much breastmilk you are giving. Pregnant women are welcome too, just to come along and find out about breastfeeding. You don’t need to have a problem to attend – lots of mums come because they enjoy being in a group with other breastfeeding women chatting about their experiences. There are Baby Cafés across the UK.
All pregnant or breastfeeding mums are welcome to drop in at any time during opening hours. You can bring your partner too. Baby Café drop-ins are generally open once a week. They are held in a social setting which might include coffee tables, sofas and play areas for accompanying toddlers. Locations vary from church halls and community rooms to children’s centres.
Baby Café drop-ins are run by a range of staff including health professionals (midwives, health visitors, or lactation consultants); practitioners such as nursery nurses; or breastfeeding counsellors from the voluntary breastfeeding organisations. All will have specific training and experience in helping breastfeeding families.
Help is available on all aspects of breastfeeding and its impact on daily life – from starting to stopping and all the variations in between.
In a relaxed, informal atmosphere you can:
If you have not fed your baby whilst being out and about before, Baby Café is the perfect environment to bridge the gap from being at home to feeding elsewhere.
Baby Café is our name and our trademark. All genuine Baby Cafés are listed on this website and will display their licence certificate during the Baby Café session. This is your guarantee that they are a genuine Baby Café, and you can expect all of these drop-ins to be run to the same high standards.
All of our facilitators work to the same set of quality standards, with our Mother’s Charter setting out what you can expect. All Baby Cafés have to complete an Annual Return, reporting back to us about how they will maintain our standards every year. We also perform Baby Cafés site visits so that we can meet the staff and talk to the users of the service.
Baby Café takes the evaluation of its service very seriously with a thorough and well developed process of data collection. This data is evaluated and used to produce our Annual Report.
We welcome any feedback about Baby Cafés.
