Breast isn't best, bakers told mums  7th January 2004

Newcastle's Westgate Baby Café hit the local news when they planned to throw a party for their launch.  According to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, "...when (the Baby Café) asked Asda in Gateshead's MetroCentre to make a cake iced with a breastfeeding woman (the Baby Café logo!) for the celebration it was turned away by staff, who branded the idea 'offensive'."
Heather Neil, a National Childbirth Trust breastfeeding adviser who helped set up Westgate Baby Café, told the newspaper, "The logo itself is very stylised, tasteful and shows just a hint of cleavage...it's worrying that Asda staff reacted like this and gave the impression there's something wrong with breastfeeding."
According to the Chronicle, the problem was resolved when an Asda spokesman said, "...obviously common sense has to prevail and this was a misunderstanding.  We...would be happy for them to bring it back and we'll make them a free cake."
The Westgate Baby Café launch is on Monday 12th January from 1pm to 3pm.
