News from Neston Baby CaféWorking and Achieving with Partners AwardWe were invited to Cheshire County Council's 'Celebrating Achievement with Children, Young People and Families' Awards in recognition for 'Working and Achieving with Partners' on 6th March 2008. Margaret Redman, midwife, and Helen Jones, Bosom Buddy peer supporter collected the award for setting up the Neston Baby Café in partnership with Wirral University Hospital, Western Cheshire PCT, Bosom Buddies, Volunteers, Neston Children's Centre The award ceremony was very special with Sir Ranulph Fiennes giving a truly inspirational talk of his adventures such as setting the world records for both the longest unsupported polar journey and the first unsupported crossing of the continent' and we think we have it tough!
Sir Ranulph Fiennes presents the award to Margaret Redman and Helen Jones Working with a multi-agency team to set up Neston baby Café in our own way was inspirational. Everyone had a strong commitment to a shared goal which made it easy to overcome barriers and build an effective team. Many women have visited the baby Café and have found the service invaluable and in some cases have received the support they needed to carry on breastfeeding in difficult circumstances. The main key for success for the smooth running of the group is the Bosom Buddies (La Leche league Peer support workers) and volunteers hard work and commitment. They are local parents who have breastfed their own babies and have attended the La Leche League Peer Support course. The organisations involved with the partnership working are:
