Buckingham Baby Café join in Race for Life

Buckingham Baby Cafe - Let's Celebrate Breast feeding

On Thursday 6th December Buckingham Baby Café held a celebration party at the Well Street Centre in Buckingham, our regular weekly venue.  This was funded by a grant from Buckinghamshire County Council's Community Leaders Fund (Mr. Hedley Cadd).  Mums were invited to bring a note about their reasons for breast-feeding, which could be displayed for the session.

There were delicious fruit smoothies on offer as well as a healthy buffet in the form of vegetable and fruit platters with a variety of dips - we couldn't resist a Christmas cake and several of our youngest members came in fancy dress which caused much oohing and aahing from mums and volunteers.

Several Mums and babies then joined in a fun salsa session with Julie from Experience Dance and Fitness although dancing with a baby proved to be hard work and certainly gave a whole new perspective on Strictly Come Dancing!

The Baby Café meets weekly on Thursday mornings from 10.15 - 12 noon at the Well Street Centre and provides a place for breast feeding mums to meet.  Breast feeding support is always available, so if you are a breast feeding mother or a family member supporting a new mum please do come along for a cuppa and a chat.  There is no charge for refreshments but donations area always welcome. Further information is available from your local Health Visitors on 01280 826917 or 01296 712975.

Race for Life

On Sunday 20th May we took part in 'Race for Life' at Waddesdon Manor near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. The run (which we walked !) was 5km and the aim was to raise money for Cancer Research and for us to raise our local profile.

It was a sunny morning and to see 3000 women gathered and walking and running was an amazing sight. We wore our race numbers on our chests, to which we had added the new Baby Café stickers and on our backs everyone had a card which stated 'I run for …..' and all had added their own messages, which varied from 'Me' to ' Mum' to one which just said 'My children's children's children'. We feel we achieved what we set out to do: enjoy the company and the experience, walk the distance, raise awareness of our Baby Café and last but not least raise funds for Cancer Research.
